1 in 10 couples say that getting a mortgage made their sex lives go limp. Together with Rocky Flintstone of ‘My Dad Wrote A Porno’, we released a book to put the moans back into your mortgage.
The Road to Completion features Sylvia and Tom’s tantalising search for a new home, their very literal interpretation of 'property porn', their intense arousal during the property viewing and the ecstatic climax they both experience when they complete on their dream property.
With the added pressure and uncertainty caused by the pandemic and resulting lockdown, we wanted to play our part in bringing the pleasure back into home-buying, one house-hunting couple at a time.
According to our research, 1 in 7 (14 per cent) said getting a mortgage was the most stressful part of the home-buying process, with 8 per cent admitting they were too tired to be intimate with each other due to mortgage-related stress.
More than 1 in 20 (7 per cent) said having conversations with their partner about mortgage deals and interest rates took the spark out of their relationship, with 1 in 10 (9 per cent) saying intimacy with their partner improved once the home buying process was over.
Shockingly, 3% of survey respondents said the mortgage process “damaged their relationship forever” - potentially meaning that up to 24,000 people across the UK who got a mortgage in 2020, suffered serious relationship woes as a result of applying for a mortgage.
“Going round the houses trying to find a mortgage is something I’ve had a hard time doing in the past. If only Habito had been there for me, it would have been as enjoyable an experience completing as our protagonists Sylvia and Tom have discovered. Remember, when you get what you want, you feel great!” — Rocky Flintstone, author of The Road to Completion
Residential houses contribute 20% to the UK’s carbon emissions and we all agree that something has to be done about it, pronto. But is rewarding the clued up and cash rich homeowner really the answer?
Chinaza Agbor is the latest artist to participate in our This Is Our Home project. We photographed her work “Peace and My Things” outside her home in South London, then caught up with Chinaza to discuss her unconventional artistic background and why, for her, home is nomadic.
